After more than 45 years in the classroom, I retired from teaching sixteen months ago. While I have enjoyed the freedom that retirement has brought me, I dearly miss my contact with students and look forward to teaching once again. Over my career, I came to realize that my greatest loves about being in the classroom were connected to reading, writing, and talking about both great literature and cultural studies. There is nothing I enjoy more than helping students experience the world outside of themselves, through both fiction and nonfiction reading, so that they might begin to understand how they share similarities with the others,, as well as how they are uniquely individual.
